Donnarumma burglary: two men jailed, one acquitted
A Paris court has sentenced two men over the violent burglary of Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Alessia Elefante at their Paris home, and acquitted a third defendant.
The Paris Criminal Court on Sept. 11 sentenced Ilyas Kherbouch, 21, to nine years in prison and fined him 80,000 euros ($92,000). Moktar D. received a five-year prison sentence, with two years suspended subject to probation. Khyan M. was acquitted.
Prosecutors had sought prison terms of four to 10 years for the three men accused of organising or taking part in the July 2023 burglary. They had requested the longest sentence, 10 years, for Kherbouch, also known as “Ganito”, nine years for Khyan M., and six years for Moktar D.
The court heard that Donnarumma and Elefante, then his fiancee and now his wife, were bound and threatened at knifepoint after four masked men broke into their ninth-floor apartment on Avenue Montaigne in central Paris via the rooftops in the early hours of July 21, 2023.
Donnarumma was beaten until he bled, while Elefante was choked with a phone charging cable. Elefante later suffered a miscarriage attributed to the trauma of the incident.
A seven-man gang, some of whom remain unidentified, escaped within minutes with cash, jewellery, watches and luxury bags. Donnarumma estimated the stolen property at just under 1 million euros ($1.1 million).
Donnarumma, 27, was playing for Paris Saint-Germain at the time of the burglary. He moved to Manchester City in 2025.
Kherbouch and Khyan M. denied involvement during questioning. Moktar D., the only defendant present at the burglary scene, said he had acted only as a lookout from a building opposite the couple's apartment.
