China exports rise 25% in August as imports gain 28.2%
China's exports rose 25% year on year in August and imports increased 28.2%, the General Administration of Customs said on Tuesday, as trade in technology products remained strong.
Export growth accelerated from 23.9% in July but was below a Bloomberg forecast of 25.9%. Import growth also rose from July's 27.5%, but was below Bloomberg's forecast of 31.0%.
Shipments to the United States climbed 34.4% year on year in August, compared with a 17% increase in July. The customs data put China's exports to the United States at $42.5 billion in August, up from $31.6 billion in July.
China's exports of computers and related parts rose 49.4% in January through August, the customs data showed. AFP reported that China's trade has continued to grow after a historic trade surplus in 2025, due largely to overseas demand for semiconductors, computing hardware and other products linked to artificial intelligence.
The figures came before an expected summit in Washington this month between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.

Both the export and import growth figures were below Bloomberg forecasts of 25.9% and 31.0%, respectively.
