China landslides kill 13, leave 3 missing
Landslides in eastern China have killed 13 people and left three others missing, Chinese state media said Tuesday, days after heavy rain brought by Typhoon Saudel.
Xinhua, citing local officials, said a mudslide that hit Mingkeng village in Jiangxi province on Saturday left 12 people dead and one missing. Another person was found dead and two others remained missing after landslides in the nearby townships of Zuo'an and Tanghu.
The landslides followed days of torrential rain from Saudel, which first made landfall on China's eastern coast at the end of last month. Several cities suspended work, schools and transport services during the heavy rain.
Xinhua said the Mingkeng landslide damaged homes and destabilised roads. More than 170 rescuers were deployed to search for missing people.

State media raised the reported death toll from six to 13.
The number of missing people was reduced from nine to three.
Xinhua reported 12 deaths and one missing person from the Mingkeng village mudslide, plus one death and two missing people in Zuo'an and Tanghu.
