Cellou Dalein Diallo says Guinea revoked passport

Exiled Guinean opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo said Tuesday that Guinea had revoked his passport, preventing him from attending meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Diallo's party, the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea, said he had obtained a boarding pass for an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Abidjan to New York. The party said the airline later notified him that his passport had been “revoked by the issuing authorities.”

Diallo, 74, has lived in exile since 2022. His party was dissolved in March along with several other main opposition parties.

Guinean authorities did not respond to AFP on Tuesday. President Mamady Doumbouya ousted Guinea's first freely elected president, Alpha Conde, in 2021. Doumbouya secured re-election in December with main opposition leaders, including Diallo, barred from running.
