Carlos Alberto Parreira cleared to leave hospital
Carlos Alberto Parreira, the former Brazil coach who led the national team to the 1994 World Cup title, has been cleared to leave Samaritano Barrale Hospital in Rio de Janeiro, the hospital said Saturday.
The hospital said the 83-year-old had shown a positive clinical response during his stay and would receive home and outpatient care to monitor his general condition.
Parreira has had Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, since 2023. He was admitted with pneumonia on June 16, later underwent surgery after his condition worsened and was placed on a ventilator in an intensive care unit.
He was moved to a semi-intensive care unit on July 27.
Parreira coached Brazil at the 1994 and 2006 World Cups. He also coached Kuwait in 1982, the United Arab Emirates in 1990, Saudi Arabia in 1998 and South Africa in 2010.
Uncertainty notes
Parreira's precise current condition beyond being cleared for home and outpatient care is not detailed.
