BP names Ian Tyler permanent chairman

British oil giant BP said Wednesday it appointed Ian Tyler as permanent chairman after an extensive search, making permanent the role he took on after Albert Manifold was suddenly removed.

Tyler became interim chair on May 26, the same day BP announced Manifold's removal. BP cited “serious concerns” over management, oversight and conduct at the company, which Manifold strongly denied.

A month before Manifold's departure, Meg O'Neill began as BP chief executive, replacing Murray Auchincloss, who stepped down after less than two years.

BP also faced a shareholder backlash at its annual meeting in April, when investors rejected a resolution that would have reduced the company's climate reporting requirements.
