Blue Origin seeks outside funding for first time

Blue Origin is raising outside money for the first time and will no longer be funded only by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Chief Executive Dave Limp said Tuesday in Washington.

“We are raising outside money for the first time. Jeff has funded it up till now,” Limp said, confirming earlier reports.

US media reported that the space company is seeking to raise $8 billion in outside capital. The Wall Street Journal reported that Bezos has invested $30 billion in Blue Origin since its creation.

Blue Origin, founded in the early 2000s, is competing with SpaceX in areas including plans to send data centers into space and NASA’s Artemis program to transport astronauts to the Moon.
