Anthropic signs $35bn Lambda deal, person familiar says

Anthropic has signed a $35 billion, six-year deal to use cloud computing power from Lambda, a person familiar with the agreement told AFP, as major artificial intelligence developers compete for advanced computing capacity.

Lambda, based in San Jose, California, provides AI cloud computing services and is backed by Nvidia, which has also invested in Anthropic.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Lambda will secure access to a data center being built by Hut 8, a bitcoin miner and data center developer. Nvidia will lease the data center from Hut 8, and Lambda will then pay Nvidia an undisclosed amount for access, the newspaper reported.

A person familiar with a separate arrangement confirmed to AFP that Anthropic also recently signed a similar six-year, $45 billion deal with London-based cloud provider Nscale for capacity at a facility in West Virginia.

Anthropic has signed computing deals worth at least $135 billion this year. Demand for chips and computing power has grown as AI model developers, including Anthropic and OpenAI, compete for customers and capacity.
