AfD victory draws praise from Trump allies and Musk

Supporters of US President Donald Trump praised Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany after the party won a key regional election on Sunday.

Trump did not explicitly respond to the result, but posted an infographic of the election results on his Truth Social platform on Sunday evening.

Richard Grenell, a former US ambassador to Germany during Trump's first term, called the result “a huge win and a new day in Germany” in a post on X.

Elon Musk also welcomed the result, writing “Well done!” in response to a post from AfD co-leader Alice Weidel.

Ulrich Siegmund, the 35-year-old lead AfD candidate in Saxony-Anhalt, thanked Musk for his support and said he would “welcome the opportunity for strong and constructive cooperation.”

Musk has previously supported the AfD, describing it before Germany's February 2025 federal elections as “the best hope for the future of Germany.”
