Walmart raises forecast as profit falls 9.4%
Walmart raised its full-year profit and sales forecast after second-quarter revenue rose 5.9% to $187.9 billion, even as profit fell 9.4% to $6.4 billion and US sales growth slowed.
The US retailer said comparable sales in the United States grew 2.6% in the quarter, down from 4.1% growth in the first quarter.
Walmart said the results were helped by US tariff refunds, but that the benefit was partly offset by price cuts. It said a January 1 price cap on 10 top-selling pharmaceutical products hurt US sales.
The company said US results were lifted by market-share gains across income categories, led by upper-income households. It said grocery sales grew more than health and wellness and general merchandise, while global e-commerce sales rose 23%.
Walmart shares fell 5.7% in pre-market trading.
