Ukraine says Russian strike near Kyiv wounds six; 200 evacuated

Ukrainian authorities said a Russian drone strike hit a warehouse near Kyiv on Friday evening, triggering a fire and explosions, wounding at least six people and forcing more than 200 people to evacuate.

The strike took place shortly after 8:00 pm local time in Myla, in the Bucha district on the outskirts of the capital, authorities said.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the regional military administration, said the fire was “accompanied by explosions” and that more than 200 people, including children, had been evacuated from the scene.

The prosecutor's office opened a negligence investigation into storage conditions at the site. It said the investigation would examine the legality of storing explosive objects and materials on the company's grounds and whether the unnamed company had the necessary permits and approvals.

Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky said a lesson had not been learned from a deadly July attack on a munitions depot in Vyshneve, near Kyiv, where an investigation found serious failures by a state-owned company despite the depot's proximity to homes.

“In the fifth year of the full-scale invasion, making the same mistakes over and over is criminal negligence,” Koretsky said.
