Uganda declared Ebola-free by WHO

The World Health Organization declared Uganda Ebola-free on Thursday after 42 days without a new case.

The WHO said Uganda had reached 42 days since the last confirmed imported Ebola case was discharged on July 16, 2026, with no documented onward transmission linked to that case.

Uganda recorded 20 Ebola cases in total, almost all in people who had travelled from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo, and two deaths.

The WHO commended Uganda's government, health workers and partners for measures taken to contain the outbreak and prevent wider spread.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, more than 5,600 confirmed Ebola cases and more than 2,700 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak was declared on May 15.
