Treuchtlingen station object not explosive, police say
Police in Bavaria said a suspicious object found on tracks at Treuchtlingen train station on Thursday did not contain explosives, but they believed it had been deliberately placed to disrupt rail traffic.
Middle Franconia police said a bomb squad examined the object after it was found in the morning. Specialised police units used a robot to move the item before checking it with an X-ray device.
Police said criminal officers were securing evidence at the scene and that rail traffic remained suspended.
Treuchtlingen is a town of about 13,000 people around 150 kilometres north of Munich. Its station is an important junction for regional and long-distance trains, including routes to Munich, Nuremberg and other Bavarian cities.
