Switzerland fire inquiry detains one after 4 deaths
Swiss prosecutors said Monday that one person has been placed in pre-trial detention in a criminal investigation into an August 21 apartment-block fire in Thusis that killed four foreign nationals.
Prosecutors in the canton of Graubunden said the investigation is directed at one individual. They said a court ordered the person detained on August 26 and that multiple counts of negligent homicide and negligent bodily injury are being considered.
Authorities said they could not yet provide information on the cause of the fire. They identified the four people killed as a 32-year-old Portuguese woman, Romanian men aged 35 and 44, and a 57-year-old Bulgarian man.
Six people were injured. Graubunden police said shortly after the fire that the building, which housed a restaurant and flats, had been entirely burned and that its stairwell had collapsed.
Uncertainty notes
Prosecutors said no information could yet be provided on the cause of the fire.
The detained person's identity was not provided.
