Spain flash floods leave mother and daughter dead

A mother and her 18-year-old daughter have died after being injured when a wall collapsed during flash flooding in northeast Spain, authorities said Wednesday.

The two women were among three people injured Saturday when the wall collapsed near the seafront at the port of Roda de Bera, about 75 kilometres southwest of Barcelona.

Spanish media reported that the pair had been sheltering at a market stall when the force of the water caused a wall separating a street from private property to collapse on them.

Roda de Bera town hall said the women had been in critical condition and declared two days of official mourning.

Catalan regional president Salvador Illa expressed condolences to the family on X and offered his support.

The storm injured 11 people in total, forced the evacuation of a campsite and a nightclub, flooded streets and left people trapped in cars.
