Russian strikes kill 3 near Kyiv, officials say

Russian strikes killed three people, including a child, in Brovary district northeast of Kyiv, Ukrainian regional military official Tymur Tkachenko said Saturday.

Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's regional military administration, said three other people were wounded in the district. He said falling debris damaged houses and vehicles and caused a fire in a non-residential building.

Ukraine's state emergency service said the attack in the village of Pukhivka destroyed a two-storey house and two cars and started a fire in a warehouse.

Kyiv's military administration said four people were wounded in overnight attacks in the capital. Earlier, it said an air raid alert had been declared in Kyiv because of ballistic missiles and told residents to take shelter.

An AFP reporter in Kyiv heard about a dozen explosions as Ukraine's air force warned of the "threat of ballistic weapon use from the north".

Russia has increased attacks on the Ukrainian capital in recent months, often using salvos of ballistic missiles that are difficult to intercept.
