Russia attacks Kyiv, wounds around dozen in Ukraine

Russia attacked Kyiv with drones on Thursday after strikes across Ukraine killed one person and wounded around a dozen others, authorities said.

AFP journalists in Kyiv heard multiple explosions as air raid alerts sounded several times on Thursday morning. Authorities said one man was wounded in the capital's Golosiivsky district.

Social media footage showed large plumes of smoke rising from one of the sites targeted in the morning attack.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv region, said Russia had attacked the region overnight with strike drones and ballistic missiles and that warehouses were targeted.

In the northeastern Sumy region, authorities said one person was killed and four others wounded by Russian attacks. Authorities also reported three wounded in Odesa and three each in the southern regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

Yaroslav Shanko, head of the Kherson city administration, said civilian transport had been attacked in daylight while people were going about their business.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky repeated calls for Kyiv's allies to send more ballistic missile defence packages to counter the attacks.
