Russia drone attacks kill 1 in Kharkiv, hit Kyiv

Russian drone attacks hit Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on Thursday, with local prosecutors saying a strike on a shopping centre in Kharkiv killed one person and wounded others.

In Kyiv, AFP journalists heard multiple explosions as air raid alerts sounded several times during the morning. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said four people were injured, including two taken to hospital, and said a drone had crashed onto a road.

Local authorities also reported three people injured in a strike on a bus in Kherson and three wounded in Odesa. In the northeastern Sumy region, authorities said one person was killed and four others wounded by Russian attacks.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv region, said Russia had attacked the region overnight with strike drones and ballistic missiles and that warehouses were targeted.

Yaroslav Shanko, head of the Kherson city administration, said civilian transport had been attacked in daylight while people were going about their business. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky repeated calls for Kyiv's allies to send more ballistic missile defence packages to counter the attacks.
