Park So-yeon set for South Korea eSports first

Park So-yeon is set to become the first woman to represent South Korea's national team in eSports after being chosen for the Asian Games in Japan.

The 23-year-old will compete in the survival horror game Identity V at the Games in Nagoya and the wider Aichi area from September 19 to October 4. She is the only woman among South Korea's 36 eSports competitors heading to Japan.

Park said she wanted to take responsibility as the first woman in the team and help open the way for other women who play competitive games.

South Korea's team also includes Lee Sang-hyeok, better known as Faker, who helped South Korea win gold in League of Legends at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

South Korea won two golds, one silver and one bronze when eSports made its debut as an official medal event at the 2023 Asian Games. The number of eSports events has risen to 13 for this year's Games.
