Nvidia jumps 7.3% as US stocks open higher

Nvidia shares jumped 7.3% in early trading on Thursday after the chip company reported another quarter of revenue growth tied to artificial intelligence demand, helping major US stock indexes open higher.

Nvidia’s results also lifted other chip companies, although some large technology companies involved in artificial intelligence, including Amazon and Google parent Alphabet, retreated.

Markets were also awaiting a Friday speech by Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh at the annual Jackson Hole central bank event. Art Hogan of B. Riley Wealth said investors wanted more clarity from Warsh on how the Federal Reserve would respond to inflation and rate policy.
