Israeli strike kills woman in south Lebanon, NNA says
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Thursday killed a woman in the town of Arab Salim and wounded other people.
The agency said the woman killed in Arab Salim had been married for 48 hours. It reported a series of Israeli strikes in the south.
Israel's military said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure in south Lebanon, including weapons storage facilities. It said the strikes were in response to Hezbollah activity overnight, when it said the Iran-backed group launched two explosive drones toward Israeli soldiers operating in the Ali al-Taher ridge. The military said there were no Israeli casualties from that incident.
Israel has increased attacks on south Lebanon in recent days, particularly in the Nabatieh area, where the Ali al-Taher ridge is located. Israel has previously said Hezbollah fighters are in underground infrastructure there.
Lebanon said Israeli strikes on August 15 killed 11 people, including several children. Israel's military said at the time it launched raids in retaliation for a Hezbollah attack and killed two Hezbollah commanders.
Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the wider Middle East conflict on March 2 by attacking Israel in support of Iran, triggering Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion. Lebanese authorities say more than 4,300 people have been killed. Israeli forces are operating inside a self-declared security zone about 10 kilometres deep inside Lebanese territory along the border.
Violence has dropped since a US-Iran memorandum of understanding on the broader conflict in June and an Israel-Lebanon framework agreement later that month, but Lebanon continues to report Israeli strikes, artillery shelling and demolitions of civilian buildings in southern villages and towns.
