Lebanon says Israeli strikes kill one, damage ambulance

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said Israeli strikes in the southern city of Nabatieh killed one person on Tuesday, after the health ministry reported two wounded and said a second strike damaged an ambulance.

The agency said the first strike targeted a vehicle in Nabatieh. The health ministry said rescuers from the Risala Scouts Association, linked to the Hezbollah-allied Amal movement, arrived at the scene before another Israeli strike damaged their ambulance.

The ministry condemned what it called the continued targeting of rescue teams, saying it violated international humanitarian law and international norms.

Lebanon's civil defence separately said its personnel were targeted by a drone strike while trying to extinguish a bushfire, also in the Nabatieh area. It said no one was wounded, but the incident forced the team to leave the site.

The National News Agency also reported at least one detonation and artillery shelling in southern Lebanon on Tuesday.

The reported strikes came despite an ongoing truce in the war between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the wider Middle East war in March by firing rockets at Israel in support of Iran. Israel responded with air strikes and a ground invasion that Lebanon says have killed more than 4,300 people.

Violence has decreased since a US-Iran memorandum of understanding in June and a Lebanon-Israel framework agreement days later, but Beirut still reports intermittent Israeli strikes and demolitions.

The Lebanon-Israel deal includes Hezbollah's disarmament, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon and deployment of the Lebanese army to the region, starting in two pilot zones. Hezbollah rejects the deal and refuses to disarm.
