Ukraine says Russia used N Korean missiles in raids killing 10
Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least 10 people overnight and wounded dozens, Ukrainian authorities said Tuesday, as President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of using North Korean ballistic missiles in the raid.
Zaporizhzhia was the worst hit city. Local authorities said seven people were killed and 24 wounded there. Zelensky said the southeastern city was struck with North Korean ballistic missiles, Zircon missiles and guided aerial bombs, and accused Russia of targeting civilian infrastructure.
The Zaporizhstal steel plant said all seven people killed in Zaporizhzhia were its employees. It said the strike caught workers on their way to shelter after an air alert was announced, and that 21 of its employees were wounded.
Three more people were killed by Russian drones and missiles in the neighbouring Dnipropetrovsk region, the local military administration said.
In Kyiv, Zelensky said an infectious diseases hospital was hit. Ukraine's health ministry said a children's hospital in the capital was also hit, but that children and medical staff were not hurt because they were in a shelter. Zelensky said strikes on Kherson and Kharkiv caused power outages.
Russia's defence ministry said its forces carried out a group strike with high-precision ground-based weapons against military-industrial enterprises and transport-logistics centres in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia.
Ukrainian officials later reported three more deaths on Tuesday. Sumy regional governor Oleg Grygorov said a Russian guided-bomb attack killed a man who was driving past one targeted area. Local authorities said another two people were killed in a daytime strike in the southern Odesa region.
Russia said a civilian was killed in a drone strike in its Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine.
Zelensky has recently renewed warnings about deepening military ties between Moscow and Pyongyang. On Monday, he said Russia had received additional ballistic missiles from North Korea. Over the weekend, he alleged that a decision had been made for 30,000 to 50,000 North Koreans to be deployed on Russian territory. Kyiv did not explain how it obtained the figures or give a timeframe.
South Korea's foreign ministry said it was watching the situation closely and said military cooperation between North Korea and Russia affected South Korean security and violated UN Security Council resolutions.
Russia and North Korea signed a mutual defence pact in 2024. North Korea earlier sent troops to help Russian forces push back a Ukrainian counterattack into Russia's Kursk region. Western, Ukrainian and South Korean intelligence have long accused North Korea of supplying weapons to Russia.
Russia has increased ballistic missile strikes on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks. Ukraine says it has an acute shortage of Patriot interceptors, among the few air-defence systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. The United Nations has said the latest escalation has pushed Ukraine's civilian death toll to its highest level since the first months of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
Update
Ukrainian authorities raised the overnight death toll to at least 10.

Ukrainian officials reported later Tuesday that a guided-bomb attack in Sumy killed one man and a daytime strike in Odesa killed two people.
Russia said a civilian was killed in a drone strike in its Belgorod region.
South Korea said it was watching North Korea-Russia military cooperation closely.
