Iran army says damaged weapons systems rebuilt

Iran's army said Wednesday that weapons systems damaged during the Middle East war had been rebuilt and that new systems had been imported.

Army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia told state TV that systems in all branches of the military, including damaged systems, had been rebuilt. He said new equipment had come through Iran's defence industry and army, while some had been imported from abroad.

Akraminia said the equipment had enhanced Iran's combat capabilities. He also said Iran had taken measures to reconstruct and redeploy damaged systems and had changed its military doctrine from defensive to offensive.

The United States and Israel began the Middle East war with strikes on Iran on February 28, triggering Iranian retaliation across the region. An April 8 ceasefire ended nearly 40 days of intense bombardment, but sporadic attacks, mostly near the Strait of Hormuz, have weakened prospects for a full peace agreement.
