Houthis claim drone attack on Saudi Jazan refinery

Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed they targeted an Aramco oil refinery in Jazan on Saudi Arabia's southern Red Sea coast with several drones on Tuesday, Houthi news agency Saba reported.

Saba cited a Houthi military source as saying the claimed attack was a response to airspace violations over Yemen's Saada and Hajjah governorates. Damage and casualties were not confirmed.

The United Nations said it was deeply concerned by the reported strikes. A spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said such attacks risked further entangling Yemen in the wider regional confrontation while trade and energy flows were under severe strain.

The Houthis announced a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia last month after an Iranian plane landed in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, setting off tit-for-tat attacks. The group has hit Saudi tankers in the Red Sea and attacked Yemeni government forces since the latest round of fighting began.

Yemen has been in civil conflict for more than a decade. The Houthis are fighting Yemen's Saudi-backed government, and Saudi Arabia previously led a coalition that bombed Houthi-held areas during the war.
