Houthi attack on Mokha kills eight, official says

A military official from Yemen's internationally recognised government said a Houthi strike on the port city of Mokha killed eight people on Friday, including two security personnel.

The official said the Houthis fired five missiles at commercial ships unloading at the port and that two ships were on fire. Mokha had also been hit earlier in the week.

Houthi media quoted a rebel military source as saying the group attacked a Saudi Aramco site in Najran, southwest Saudi Arabia, with a drone and that the operation achieved its objective. The claimed strike and any damage were not independently confirmed.

The group had said it carried out an attack on another Aramco facility in Jizan the day before.

The incidents come after a years-long truce in Yemen's civil war between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed, internationally recognised government appeared to collapse last month. The Houthis have declared a maritime blockade on Saudi ports, attacked ships in the Red Sea and claimed strikes on oil infrastructure.

The Houthi threat to shipping and Saudi oil sites comes in parallel with Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has become a central flashpoint between Tehran and Washington in efforts to end the Middle East war launched by the United States and Israel in February.
