GTA 6 preview debuts on Netflix after leaks

Rockstar Games released a 26-minute preview of Grand Theft Auto 6 on Netflix on Thursday, giving a first look on the platform at the delayed game after clips had leaked online.

The preview shows lead character Jason escaping a drug bust with Lucia, then moves through Vice City, car chases, rooftop meetings, a strip club and shootouts. On-screen symbols indicated players will be able to make the pair hold hands.

GTA 6 is due for release on November 19 after originally being scheduled for late 2025. GTA 5, released in 2013, has sold more than 200 million copies. It is not clear how many pre-orders have been placed for the new game.

Some users around the world reported Netflix outages around midday Thursday as the preview appeared. Rockstar planned to put the preview on YouTube later Thursday.

Clips of GTA 6 began leaking online on August 18. Rockstar said on social media that the leak was “not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time” and called the situation “heartbreaking.”

Court documents reviewed by AFP show two federal judges in New York approved Rockstar requests for Microsoft and Discord to provide data as the company tries to identify the source of the leaks. The leaks are attributed to an account using the name Cyberleek, whose author or authors claim to be exposing video game industry business practices.

Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, has faced criticism from fans over plans not to release physical copies and over a higher-priced version with extra content. Military news site Task & Purpose reported that a US Army unit offered eligible soldiers four days off to play GTA 6 if they reenlist for at least two years.
