David Correa targeted in Brazil drug raids, club says

Brazilian forward David Correa was targeted in police raids carried out Monday as part of a drugs and weapons trafficking investigation, his club Vasco da Gama said.

Rio de Janeiro police said about 100 officers took part in raids against a “criminal organization” with branches in several Brazilian states. Police said “professional sportspeople” were suspected of links to the organization and that four arrest warrants and 15 search warrants were executed.

Local media reported that investigators searched Correa’s home in Barra da Tijuca, an upscale Rio neighborhood, and Vasco’s training ground. Vasco director Admar Lopes said the club was cooperating with authorities.

Lopes said Correa, 30, would continue training and remain available for matches while the investigation continues. Correa scored in Vasco’s 3-1 Serie A win over Cruzeiro at the weekend.
