Brydon Carse nightclub incident: police probe assault

Derbyshire Police said they are investigating assault allegations in Derby city centre after an incident in which England fast bowler Brydon Carse was handcuffed outside a late bar over the weekend.

The force said late Wednesday that no arrests had yet been made and that the investigation was ongoing. It was not clear what part, if any, Carse had in the alleged assault.

Carse was dropped from England's squad for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord's after the Cricket Regulator began its own probe into the episode.

Police had earlier said a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in Derby city centre on Saturday night, then de-arrested shortly afterwards after agreeing to leave the area.

Former England captain Ben Stokes and seamer Matthew Potts appeared in footage from the aftermath of Durham's County Championship victory over Derbyshire, but there was no suggestion either was involved in wrongdoing.

England Test captain Joe Root said Tuesday that Carse was upset and apologetic, and criticised what he described as repeated mistakes away from cricket.
