Brussels records 2026 high of 35.9C in heatwave

Brussels recorded its hottest day of 2026 so far on Friday, reaching 35.9C, Belgium's IRM weather agency said.

Belgium is among several European countries experiencing heatwaves. AFP calculated that parts of Europe home to at least 150 million people had temperatures above 35C on Friday.

Scientists say human-made climate change has made such heat more extreme and more frequent, and that Europe has become the world's fastest-warming continent.
