Anthropic IPO may top SpaceX record debut

Anthropic is expected to go public within weeks in a Wall Street listing that could exceed SpaceX's record debut in June.

Bloomberg says the OpenAI rival intends to surpass the $86.2 billion raised by SpaceX in its June IPO. The Wall Street Journal says Anthropic will tell investors that its revenue opportunities are above $30 trillion.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives who said AI safety concerns were not being taken seriously enough. It is led by chief executive and co-founder Dario Amodei, and his sister Daniela Amodei is also a co-founder and the company's president. PitchBook says Anthropic has 5,000 employees.

The company has focused on artificial intelligence tools for computer programmers. Its developer assistant Claude Code has become one of its most popular products, and the item says projected annual revenue has reached $65 billion.

Anthropic faces large computing and infrastructure costs as it tries to build advanced AI models. It was valued at just under $1 trillion when it raised $65 billion in May.

The company is also in conflict with the Trump administration. In March, the government broke off contracts with Anthropic and designated the company a supply chain risk after it refused to grant the military unfettered access to its AI models. Anthropic called the Defense Department's move unconstitutional retaliation, and the dispute is now in court.

Uncertainty notes

The item says Anthropic is expected to go public within weeks, but it does not state a confirmed listing date.
The final size, timing and terms of any Anthropic listing are not yet confirmed.
The outcome of Anthropic's legal dispute with the US government is unresolved.
