Albufeira drunk driver injures 12, police say
A drunk driver injured 12 people, including two police officers, in the Algarve beach town of Albufeira early Tuesday, Portuguese police said.
Police said the 35-year-old Portuguese man refused an order to stop his car at 3:00 am and drove off along a street known for bars and nightclubs.
The interior ministry said two police officers and 10 other people were injured, with one victim in critical condition. Police said one of the injured was a Polish national.
Police said the suspect had more than twice the permitted blood alcohol level and had been detained to face potential charges of causing bodily harm and dangerous driving under the influence of alcohol.
