85 migrants rescued off Crete, ANA says

The ANA news agency reported on August 25 that the Greek coastguard rescued 85 migrants from two rubber dinghies in trouble off Crete.

ANA quoted the coastguard as saying the dinghies were spotted by a drone before a coastguard vessel went to the area. The migrants were taken to the port of Kali Limenes in southern Crete to be registered.

The operation followed other rescues off Crete in recent days. Crete and the nearby island of Gavdos, about 320 kilometres from the Libyan coast, have over the past year become a route for asylum seekers trying to reach Europe by sea.
