Five killed in Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia as Kyiv targets oil sites, officials say

Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia killed five people, including a child, early on Monday, Russian officials said, as Kyiv reported attacks on an export terminal and oil facilities deep inside the country.

Rostov regional governor Yuri Slyusar said the dead included a married couple and a child. Several buildings were damaged, including a homeless shelter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian forces had struck an export terminal in the Rostov region, about 250 kilometres from the front line.

He also said oil facilities were targeted in the Yaroslavl region and the Udmurt Republic, both far from Ukraine’s border.

Authorities in Russia’s Belgorod region said Ukrainian drones wounded 12 people, including two children, and caused a fire at an apartment building.

Russia’s defence ministry said air defences intercepted 276 drones overnight.

Russian strikes on Ukraine early on Monday wounded at least four people, Ukrainian regional officials said. The injured included an 88-year-old woman who suffered extensive burns.

Ukraine has increased its strikes inside Russia in recent months, partly in an effort to pressure Moscow into negotiations after nearly four-and-a-half years of war.

The United Nations said last month was the deadliest for civilians in Ukraine since April 2022, as Russia intensified long-range attacks on Ukrainian towns and cities.
