Russian and Ukrainian strikes kill at least 10, officials say

Russian and Ukrainian strikes killed at least 10 people on Sunday, July 26, according to officials on both sides of the war. Ukrainian officials said a Russian strike hit a supermarket in the northern city of Chernigiv, killing two people, including a 10-year-old child.

Dmytro Bryzhynsky, the head of the city, reported the deaths. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said 13 people were wounded and described the attack as a Russian drone strike on a civilian supermarket.

Officials released a photograph showing smoke rising from the building. Chernigiv lies near the Belarusian border and far from the main frontline.

Zelensky also said Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv and wounded several people. He said separate Russian attacks killed one person in Zaporizhzhia and another in Kharkiv, where officials reported that a residential building had been hit. Zelensky described the attacks as deliberate Russian terror without military justification.

In Russian-held Gorlivka in eastern Ukraine, Russian-installed authorities said a Ukrainian drone strike hit a bus stop, killing four people and injuring seven. Russian-installed authorities also reported that one person was killed in the occupied part of the Kherson region.

Authorities in Russia’s Belgorod region said a Ukrainian drone killed one person in the border village of Smorodino.

The reported deaths on Sunday totalled at least 10: four in Ukrainian-controlled areas, five in Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine and one in Russia.

The attacks followed reports that 20 people had been killed on both sides of the conflict on Saturday.

Russian authorities said 12 of those deaths occurred when a Ukrainian strike hit an occupied town on the Sea of Azov.

Russia and Ukraine have both intensified missile and drone attacks while US-led efforts to end the war have stalled.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and continues to occupy parts of eastern and southern Ukraine.
