Three killed, toddler among at least four wounded in Seattle Center shooting
Three people were killed and at least four others, including a toddler, were wounded in a shooting at Seattle Center near the Space Needle during the Bite of Seattle food festival on Sunday, officials said.
Seattle police arrested one suspect and were searching for another. Assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis said shots were heard at around 6:00 p.m. and that investigators believed two people had been shooting at each other. Officers recovered two weapons, he said. Davis said there was no outstanding threat to the community. Police said two people died at the scene and a third died in hospital.
Harborview Medical Center spokesperson Susan Gregg said four patients were taken to its trauma center: a child, a woman of unknown age who underwent surgery, a 23-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman.
Davis said one of those patients later died. Another person subsequently arrived at the University of Washington Medical Center with a gunshot wound.
The patients who remained in hospital, including the toddler, were in stable condition, Davis said.
Washington Governor Bob Ferguson said State Patrol SWAT officers had been deployed to assist local police. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson thanked the officers who responded and arrested a suspect.
