Jordan shoots down drone after airspace breach near Iraq and Saudi Arabia

Jordan’s military said its air force shot down a drone that entered the country’s airspace over the eastern desert near Iraq and Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The army said the Royal Jordanian Air Force detected the drone through its monitoring and surveillance systems during the early hours of the morning and destroyed it inside Jordanian territory.

It did not say where the drone had been launched from.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli military said it intercepted a separate drone near the Jordanian border. It said the aircraft did not enter Israeli airspace and that its launch site was still being investigated.

Jordan has faced repeated aerial threats since fighting between Iran and the United States resumed earlier this month.

On Monday, Israel said it intercepted two drones near the Jordanian border, while Jordan later said its forces had shot them down.

Two US service members were killed this month in Iranian strikes on Jordan, according to the supplied report.

Amman says Jordan does not host foreign military bases, although limited forces from several countries are deployed at Jordanian army facilities under cooperation and training agreements.
