Bordeaux-area wildfire remains broadly stable overnight, authority says
A wildfire in France’s Gironde department, which includes Bordeaux, remained broadly stable overnight, the local authority said on Monday.
The authority reported no major developments and said security and emergency services remained fully mobilised.
The update followed warnings on Sunday from Interior Minister Laurent Nunez that France’s wildfire situation remained very unfavourable as firefighters worked to prevent fires from reaching Bordeaux.

Nunez said the fire in Gironde became extremely intense and unpredictable again at the start of the night and moved erratically toward the Bordeaux metropolitan area.
Nunez said the fire had become calmer by the end of the night.
The reported burned area reached 42,000 hectares, or 104,000 acres.
Nunez said 1,500 military personnel and about 1,200 police were deployed in Gironde, along with 2,500 firefighters including a Swiss team.
Nunez said 18 aircraft had been deployed since the morning and that a modified A400M military transport aircraft would be used again.
Nunez said firefighters were also trying to contain a major fire in Landes, where 3,600 hectares had burned.
Nunez said nearly 3,000 people had been evacuated as a precaution in the Var region.

Nunez said 2,500 firefighters, including a Swiss firefighting team, had been deployed in Gironde.
He said 1,500 military personnel and around 1,200 police had also been deployed to battle the blazes in Gironde.
